Tis the season, and this year, “buy-one-give-one” brands allow you to give even more. Whether you’re giving gifts, or creating a new public relations and marketing campaign strategy, these brands are worth checking out.
“Buy-One-Give-One” generally means that if someone buys your product, you will donate that same item to someone in need. It’s great for socially minded entrepreneurs, and a growing number of CSR (corporate social responsibility) campaigns, as it’s enticing to both consumer and producer when both know the proceeds are going to a good cause.
Another variation of the buy one give one method is when a company may not necessarily donate that same purchase, but rather donate profits to charity instead.
You may already know the big brands that use these techniques: Toms, Warby Parker, Newsman’s Own, and Burt’s Bees, and we’ve spotted some of their media trends using Critical Mention analytics:
In addition to the big guys, we’ve narrowed down some of our favorite brands promoting their buy one give one deals and charity-giving promotions this holiday season:
1. Burt’s Bees:
Burt’s Bees’ Greater Good Foundation donates the money it makes from purchases to various nonprofits in areas such as protecting honeybees and supporting sustainable culture.
All profits made from the sale of their food goes to the Newman’s Own Foundation, which then disperses the money to charities throughout the globe.
Every pair of shoes you buy, Toms will donate a pair to a child in need. They have expanded their buy one give one model to eyewear, selling coffee for water, and even helping to create jobs in Haiti.
Buy one give one in the simplest sense: buy a pair of glasses, and they will give a pair of glasses to a person in need.
Best of both worlds: Purchase anything and they will donate an article of clothing to someone in need AND 50% of profits go to help end homelessness.
6. Hydros:
The proceeds of any Hydros bottle sold will provide clean water for someone in need for one whole year.
If you buy a bar of soap, they will donate a bar of soap to a child in need.
8. Bogobowl:
Let’s not forget about the puppies. Buy a bag of dog food and Bogobowl will give a bag of dog food to a pet in need.
Currently, Voltaic is promoting their campaign where if you buy one of their solar chargers, they will give up to three 3.5 Watt kits to aid workers combating Ebola.
For every toothbrush bought, Smile Squared will give a toothbrush to children in areas lacking proper hygiene resources.
